BUSN8101 Special Topics in Commerce (Financial Analytics and Investigation) provides participants with a comprehensive understanding of forensic accounting concepts, tools and techniques related to the analysis and presentation of financial intelligence in support of decision-making, regulation and organisational control.

On satisying the requirements for this course, students shuld have the knowledge and skills to:

• understand and apply a range of analytical techniques to exploit bulk data;
• examine the relevance and value of advanced analytics within the workplace;
• develop and apply data mining control for fraud prevention and detection;
• develop and maintain a network of practitioners of relevance to the workplace.

Participants taking this course are expected to commit at least one hour per day in non-intensive block days during the four weeks the course is run.  The one hour requirement for non-intensive block days includes requirements to complete:

• On-line module content (Modules 1,3 and 5)
• Bulletin board participation on Wattle (Learning Management System)
• SAS Enterprise Miner application familiarisation and usage (available through Wattle)

Additional time will be required for reading, study and assignment preparation.

Intensive block days will run from 9am to 4pm with appropriate breaks.  A course schedule for the intensive sessions will be provided in the week prior to the first Intensive Block session (Module 2)

Module 2 - 12-13 November (intensive block one)

Module 3 - 16-18 November (on-line)

Module 4 - 19-20 November (intensive block two)

Module 3 - 23-30 November (on-line and close)
