Course Description:

The Faculty regrets to advise that this course has been withdrawn from the Semester 2 offering due to inadequate numbers.

The course will provide students with an introduction to a communicative command of Burmese, with emphasis on interactive use of the language in commonly occurring situations. There will also be an introduction to a Reading command of the Burmese script.
It is recommended that students take Complimentary non-language course, ASHI2027 ‘The Future of East Timor’.

Indicative Assessment:

Graduate students attend joint classes with undergraduates but may expect more rigorous assessment and additional assignment work, tailored to the graduate student's interests.

Burmese (Myanmar): An Introduction by John Okell. Text to be complemented by audio tapes, dictionaries, phrasebooks and grammars of Burmese, as well Burmese-language newspaper and newsmagazines.

60 hours of class time per semester.

No prerequisites. This course is for students who have no substantial previous study of Burmese.
