Course Description:

An introduction to spoken Cantonese with emphasis on comparison with Modern Standard Chinese.

Indicative Assessment:

Graduate students attend joint classes with undergraduates but may expect more rigorous assessment and additional assignment work, tailored to the graduate student’s interests.

Workload: Thirty-three contact hours per semester

Requisite Statement:

Modern Chinese 4 CHIN6521 or equivalent. Native speakers of Cantonese are not eligible. Unless exempted by the Graduate Program Convener all graduate students must enrol concurrently in the course Graduate Language Supplement EAST8023 which usually includes a written assessment piece of several thousand words
