| Course Description: |
This course provides the student with the principles of qualitative research methods for anthropological fieldwork as well as for applied interdisciplinary health research. A core component of this subject is training in analytic thinking and in the development of a research proposal. Students will acquire knowledge in qualitative methods, such as participant observation, taking field notes, field-diary writing, in-depth interviews and focus groups. Students will be expected to participate in exercises designed to enhance skills and techniques throughout the course. |
| Learning Outcomes: |
On completion of this subject, students will be able to: - Conduct their own qualitative research;
- Design and conduct qualitative research in an interdisciplinary research team;
- Evaluate the relationship between research design and research methods;
- Solve problems in research practice;
- Develop a detailed research proposal.

| Indicative Assessment: |
A series of written projects, group projects and presentations of methodological exercises to total 6000 words of written words. No more than 40% of the total marks will be derived from non-written forms of assessment. |
