This course has two main objectives. One is to study the role played by banks in modern monetary economies and financial markets, including issues arising from bank regulation, the role of banks in financial intermediation, and the significance of bank behaviour in monetary policy. The second objective is to study the operation of monetary policy generally in small open economies such as Australia.

ECON1102 Macroeconomics 1, or ECON1100 Economics 1 (H), or ECON1001/1011 Economics I (P or H), and completion of or concurrent enrolment in ECON2101/2111 Microeconomics 2 (P or H).
