| Course Description: |
This course examines the social dimensions of sustainable development with particular attention to issues related to the effective implementation of collaborative resource management and development. The course commences with an examination of theories and management approaches that support: collaborations between communities, government, and non-government sectors; organisational and institutional change, and social learning. Case studies and guest speakers provide insights into the ways environmental management practitioners address: different ways of knowing, conflicts over resource use, uneven power relations, and tensions between levels of government and resource sectors. The case studies will cover a range of sectors and may include forest management, coastal and marine management, biodiversity conservation, catchment management, and waste management. Workshops provide an opportunity for students to develop skills in collaborative resource management. |
