Course Description:

This course is directed at students interested in the study of investments, asset pricing and valuation, stock selection and market efficiency as well as topics on bond portfolio management, international diversification, funds management and portfolio performance. The course provides a practical analysis of modern financial markets, traders and trading strategies while also covering the theoretical underpinnings.

Learning Outcomes:

At the completion of the course, students are expected to be proficient in the following areas:

  • the pricing of risky assets using CAPM, single factor and multi factor models
  • security valuation
  • portfolio theory
  • portfolio management, asset allocation, stock selection, hedging and trading
  • strategies
  • portfolio formation and performance analysis
Indicative Assessment:
  • Mid Term Exam 20%
  • Group Assignment 35%
  • Final Exam 45%

 

Workload: 10 hours per week for 13 weeks = 130 hours

Eligibility:

At least an average of 65% (or equivalent) in the final two years of an Australian undergraduate degree with at least one year of university level study in quantitative analysis, including basic mathematics and data analysis techniques.
