Course Description:

This topic is suitable for Master-level students wishing to carry out applied research into a practical issue in business studies or into a field in which they have a strong personal interest. Prior research experience is not a prerequisite. However, candidates may want to draw on prior professional experience or prior studies bearing on the topic of interest.

Candidates must prepare a proposal of their applied topic in business studies.

Candidates will be expected to analyse a broad range of published sources on the topic issue; apply tools and techniques from Masters level courses in management, marketing or international business; gather some original input by collecting data in the field; and develop well-founded suggestions as to the implications of the topic issue.

Course Classification(s): AdvancedAdvanced courses are designed for students having reached 'first degree' level of assumed knowledge, which provide a deep understanding of contemporary issues; or 'second degree' and higher levels of knowledge; or for transition to research training programs. and TransitionalTransitional courses are designed for students from a broad range of backgrounds and learning achievements, which provide for the acquisition of generic skills; or an informed understanding of contemporary issues; or fundamental knowledge for transition to Advanced or Specialist courses.

Eligibility: At least an average of 65% (or equivalent) in the final two years of an Australian undergraduate degree.
Requisite Statement: Permission of the Head of School. Approval would normally require completion of at least 24 units of postgraduate coursework, with an average mark of at least 75%, and written agreement of a supervisor to supervise the research.
