Course Description:

This course aims to develop familiarity with major non-operatic vocal repertoire with orchestral accompaniment, including oratorio and symphonic repertoire for vocal soloist/s.  The relationship of repertoire to general historical context and varying stylistic developments will be discussed, along with critical listening of selections with exemplary singers of both past and present. A prescribed listening list will be discussed in 8 two-hour seminars during semester.

Indicative Assessment:

Exam (50%), and a written assignment and presentation (50%).

Workload:

Eight two-hour seminars throughout semester.
