This course is required if no previous formal optics and photonics training is not present.

This course covers the topics:

  • Physical optics including imaging diffraction
  • Interference
  • Fourier transforms
  • Image formation
  • Spatial filtering
  • Optical cavities
  • Laser resonators
  • Laser modes
  • Gain and amplifiers
  • Laser oscillatron and operation (including 18 hours laboratory work)
Workload: In addition to the course material there will be 18 hours of laboratory work.
