Course Description:

This is a practical course which aims to develop public speaking skills. The emphasis is on presenting science to a general audience. Specialist training will also be given by a professional performer to provide skills in acting techniques applicable to public speaking.

Learning Outcomes:

On satisfying the requirements of this course, students will have the knowledge and skills to:

1. Apply practical science communication techniques in presenting scientific information
2. Demonstrate understanding of the issues involved in presenting scientific presentations to various audiences
3. Design and develop verbal presentations for various audiences on various scientific topics

Indicative Assessment: Five graded verbal presentations on various scientific topics to demonstrate the application of science communication techniques (5 x 20%; LO 1, 2, 3)
