This major is intended for those that would like to work as environmental scientists and/or pursue post graduate study in the area of the Environment. Because the field of environmental science is interdisciplinary, it is intended that this major be combined with a second major offered by Research School of Earth Sciences, Chemistry, Biology, or the Fenner School of Environment and Society. This major provides a broad overview of surficial geology, from the formation of sedimentary rocks, the composition of the oceans and their sediments and the contribution of organisms to the evolution of the Planet. It deals also with formation of regolith, groundwater and a variety of resource related issues. Emphasis is also placed on geochemistry and the cycling of elements throughout the crust.
