Program Requirements

This Combined program requires the completion of at least 240 units comprising:

Asian Studies (Specialist):
Asian Studies units to the value of at least 144 units taught in or approved by the Faculty of Asian Studies including:

  • Asian-language courses forming an Asian language major, as defined in the Faculty entry for the Bachelor of Asian Studies to the value of between 48Ð60 units; and
  • Non-language courses forming an approved cognitive major as defined in the Faculty entry for the Bachelor of Asian Studies to the value of between 36Ð48 units.

Thus, the course combination for a language major and the cognitive major could be: 8/8; 9/7; or 10/6.

  • 48 units comprising the Year in Asia.

Visual Arts:
At least 96 units from the School of Art, comprising the following:

  • Core studies: 18 units
  • Major 1-5: 60 units
  • Complementary studies courses and/or Art Theory courses: 18 units

Admission

Admission to degree of Bachelor of Asian Studies (Specialist) requires a total of 192 units including:

  • not less than 144 units of Asian Studies courses as defined above.
  • courses to the value of not less than 48 units from either the Faculty of Asian Studies or the School of Art.

Admission to degree of Bachelor of Visual Arts requires a total of 144 units including:

  • 96 units of courses from the School of Art, as defined above
  • not less than 48 units of courses from either the Faculty of Asian Studies or the School of Art, including 24 units of 1000-level (first year) courses.

Year in Asia Disclaimer: Applicants are advised that due to circumstances beyond the University’s control (for example: specific international security concerns, international health crises) it may not be possible for students to commence or complete their Year-in-Asia requirement either within the minimum time for completion of their degree, or, the maximum time for completion of their degree. Should these circumstances occur, the Faculty will offer compensating program/s, but not programs leading to the Year-in-Asia qualification. In these very unusual circumstances (which have not occurred in the 12 year life of the program) reversion to the standard Bachelor of Asian Studies may be necessary.
