This program is specifically designed for students who have an interest in undertaking research and development in either industry or an academic environment. The program combines the unique systems engineering focus of the ANU Bachelor of Engineering degree with a more project based,  research intensive study mode, also unique to the ANU. Students undertake a number of research projects in different research groups at the ANU or associated industry in order to obtain a flavour of research in the discipline areas and develop independent research skills.

Students also complete an engineering specialisation which will complement the R&D specialisation and produce a Professional Engineering graduate who has the skills, knowledge and capability to go onto advanced research programs.

The combined degree with a Bachelor of Science enables a student to specialise further within a scientific discipline field, and also broaden their perspective on fundemental and applied science principles.

Scholarships valued at $20,000 - $40,000 are available to students with a UAI over 99 who enrol in this program.

Bonus points
Students may apply to the College of Engineering and Computer Science to be awarded up to two bonus points on the basis of capacity to succeed in a research-based undergraduate degree as demonstrated by success in Olympiads or similar relevant competitions etc.  The combined degree with a Bachelor of Science enables a student to specialise further within a scientific discipline field, and also broaden their perspective on fundemental and applied science principles.
