<course-description>
Objectives:

This course will examine Australian environmental law in its political, historical, literary and artistic contexts since the arrival of the First Fleet in 1788. Its aim is to explore the relationship between law and society, looking as broadly as possible across the culture. While its focus will be on Australia, it will include some comparative material, drawn especially from the United States of America, Great Britain and New Zealand.

Contents:

The topics to be covered will cross the full spectrum of environmental law. They will include questions of urban planning, forest protection, energy generation (especially hydro-electricity and nuclear power), cruelty to animals, wildlife protection, mining, pollution control and heritage protection.
</course-description>
