  <course-description>&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Objectives:&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;On completion of this course it is expected that students will be able to:&lt;/p&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;comprehensively analyse the full range of pollution regimes existing in Australia &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;understand and explain introductory theoretical concepts relating to pollution regulation design &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;explain the inter-relationship between pollution control regimes and planning law &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;critically analyse the role of the Federal, state/territory and local government in pollution control &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;present the findings of research as a well-reasoned paper in written form. &lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Content:&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Topics include:&lt;/p&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;History of pollution control &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Federal/state relations &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Land and marine based sources of pollution &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Environmental planning and pollution licensing &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Waste management &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Environmentally hazardous chemicals &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Contaminated lands &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Pollution and local government &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Remedies, compliance and enforcement. &lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;</course-description>
