The first part addresses fundamental questions about the causes of armed conflict, and the nature of inter- and intra-state conflict. The second part discusses the dynamics of armed conflict: why conflicts continue, and escalate. In the third part, students will learn about methods of conflict resolution - from grassroots activism to high-politics diplomacy - and of peace building - by means ranging from institutional design to the use of truth commissions. The theoretical issues will be explored through case studies. The line-up of lecturers for this coordinated course includes several PRIO researchers, as well as prominent visiting lecturers from diplomacy, politics and the military. </p></course-description>
